My daughter, Christa, is an amazing athlete. She bikes, swims, and has a wall full of marathon medals. Early every morning she steps out into the chilly world of asphalt hills and valleys, and rain or shine, she runs. I'm sure it's a struggle at first. The distance she travels is great. I'm sure she is sometimes tempted to quit when her muscles ache, her fingers get cold, and her nose runs as fast as she does. But knowing Christa as I do, when continuing the run seems impossible, my little girl does what she did when I tucked her into bed decades ago. She prays.
Life is an uphill trek for most of us. Sometimes it leaves us breathless, discouraged, and exhausted by the distance we must travel and the weight we try to carry. No wonder it is hard to run the race. Perhaps if we could simply learn to handle life with prayer, not just in the marathons, but also in every baby step along the way, the burdens might seem lighter and the trip more enjoyable.
"They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint," Isaiah 40:31!
