Are you too busy to pray? Well, just between you and me, have you prayed today?

If you haven't, it means you think you're too busy to stand in the cleansing presence of God and receive forgiveness of your sins? Too busy to allow His Spirit time to give you the wisdom and strength you need for the day ahead? Too busy to lay your needs and longings before His great throne with confidence that He listens and acts on your behalf? Too busy to express your love for your precious Savior who shed His blood and gave His life so you could avoid eternal punishment and spend eternity in heaven with Him? Too busy to say 'Thank You' to the Provider of every breath, every heartbeat, every good blessing you enjoy?

Girlfriend, You are right! If you haven't prayed, you are too busy.

People often ask me, "How do I rear my children to become godly men and women?" My answer is always the same, "Be godly men and women in front of them."

It's a curious thing. We don't have to teach our kids to lie, steal, or fight. Somehow they get that on their own. But they never get 'godliness' unless they see it modeled. They get 'godliness' when they see us getting it. Proverbs 22:6, reminds us to "Train up a child in the way he should go; and even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Kids hear what we say in whispers and soon walk away and forget. But the way we live in front of them is a shout they can never outrun.

There is an untapped reservoir of spiritual power in the practice of simply speaking the words, 'Thank You.' Psalm 22:26, says "Let those who seek His help praise the Lord!" Not after victory has been declared, but praise Him even as you watch storm clouds gather, before your personal battle begins.

Think about how many tears we shed when some enemy threatens to invade our lives. How many pleadings? How many promises we make to God bartering for deliverance? Could it be that He is teaching His sons and daughters that praise precedes victory? With all my heart, I believe so. As incredible as it sounds, our indescribable God takes pleasure in our 'Intentional Gratitude.' (II Chronicles 20)

Today, instead of approaching Him with complaints and requests, approach Him with praise. Applaud Him! Honor Him! Admire Him! Give God a standing ovation for what He has already done in your life, what He is doing, and what He will faithfully do in your future. And don't forget to say 'Thank You.'

What is the 'IT' in your life that you are 'struggling to keep together'? Is 'IT' your family, your marriage, your job? Is 'IT' your health, your looks, your diet? Maybe 'IT' is a depleted checkbook, a maxed-out credit card, an overdue bill, or frustration in your spiritual life. 'IT' has many names.

STOP wearing yourself out in the struggle to tame 'IT'! 'IT' is too much for you to handle alone. Don't take another step backward trying to work out your own solutions apart from God's divine leading. If you could manage 'IT' on your own, you wouldn't need the Lord. But you can't! And you do!

Call out to Jesus, and plug into the mighty power of God through His Holy Spirit. Name the 'IT' in your life. Give Him access and ask Him to make 'IT' a blessing rather than a burden. Memorize Zachariah 4:6, "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty," and bring God's Word against any 'IT' that has become a stronghold in your life.

I am writing to the disappointed and discouraged. I know you are out there trying to make sense of what is going on in your life. But you gotta quit whining and bawling and listen. "Can't nobody or nothing make you miserable unless you let them!"

I don't know what unfair situation you faced today or who treated you with disrespect. But I do know you will never find the peace you are looking for until you start living like you believe that God alone is Lord over your circumstances. Not your family! Not your coworkers! Not the devil! God is in control. He sees! He knows! He is active in your life! He is using the circumstances life throws at you to mold your Christian character and shape your testimony. You will never rise above the circumstances that cause you to be disappointed and discouraged until you find the faith to trust Him with everyone and everything that finds its way into your life.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths," Prov.3:5-6.

Charlotte's snow event this week was disappointing for those of us who had visions of creating large snow sculptures in the backyard. I admit, I was caught up in the weatherman's 'measurable accumulation' prediction. So much so, that I purchased a 'snowman making kit' and gave it to my eight year old grandson, Eli, who with great anticipation, sat waiting for that first snowflake to fall. And some did fall, but mostly on the roads not in the backyard.

I felt bad the next morning when I saw only scant patches of snow scattered here and there. I knew Eli's dream of building a snowman were dashed and his little heart was disappointed. But I underestimated the tenacity and resolve of a nine year old boy. He was determined to build something out of snow. And if not a snowman, then a SNOWHEAD. He created something special with the snow he had been given. (see photo)

Today we can whine about what we need to accomplish our goals. Or we can be thankful for what God has provided, and determined to make something beautiful out of it.
